The Remington Club Celebrates 25 Years in Rancho Bernardo
May 02, 2013
By Elizabeth Marie Himchak
The Remington Club in Rancho Bernardo celebrated its silver anniversary with a party filled with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
Residents and community members came together on Saturday for the Salute to Hollywood party, complete with a Marilyn Monroe impersonator greeting residents who entered by walking along a red carpet after being transported by vintage convertibles, said Sales Director Teri Hanson. Also providing entertainment were James Dean, The Rat Pack and Elvis impersonators.
Two days prior the Remington’s Health Care Center held a similarly themed celebration for its residents.
During the festivities those who have lived at the Remington 10 or more years were recognized. Hanson said there just happened to be 25 of them.
“While watching a video loop of the history of the Remington Club in the theater, I was reminded of class and elegance that was built into the community 25 years ago,” said Tod Murray, Five Star Quality Care’s Western regional manager. “All this time later, I am so proud to say that this same class and elegance is even more present today than when it was built 25 years ago.”
The Five Star Senior Living facility has four buildings built on 17 acres along Hierba Drive. It welcomed its first resident in late-fall 1987, but with the grand opening celebration not held until early 1988, the latter is the basis for anniversary celebrations.
It opened with Phase I, which has independent living and skilled nursing. Phase II, which opened in 1990, has assisted and independent living.
The Remington Club has about 220 independent residents, 96 assisted living residents and 56 in its Health Care Center, Hanson said, adding the center is the only one within a nine-mile radius with a Five Star Medicare rating.
Many in the community are familiar with the facility since it is home for the Continuing Education Center at Rancho Bernardo and been the venue for various for club meetings.
